US ANTI-MISSILE SYSTEM FOR EUROPE:Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek has lied in Parliament. Here is the evidence |
When local people expressed fears that the proposed US radar, to be built in the Brdy area in the Czech republic as part of the US anti-missile system in Europe, might be a serious health hazard, Czech Prime Minister Topolánek reacted like this:
"People die everywhere. Some people die when defending their country, others die accidentally, some people die stupidly in car accidents, people simply die."
Topolánek said this in a debate with local residents in the village of Borovno on 4th May, 2007. Czech internet daily Britské listy reported this statement, in English HERE, in Czech HERE. Václav Votava, a social democratic MP, raised this issue in Czech Parliament during parliamentary Question Time. Quoting the Britské listy article, he asked Prime Minister Topolánek to confirm his Borovno statement, in Czech, HERE. In his parliamentary response to Votava, Prime Minister Topolánek denied he had made the above statement and questioned the reliability of Britské listy ("Use better sources.") Britské listy has now published a videorecording of the whole debate, proving that Czech Prime Minister had indeed made the statement we quote above and that he has lied in Parliament regarding this matter. The statement in question is in Section 11 of the recording, from approximately minute 5 onwards HERE
