Dundee University ve Skotsku plánuje vyhodit 193 zaměstnanců

8. 12. 2010

Je to zjevně začátek prvních útoků proti britskému univerzitnímu systému. Podle odborového svazu britských univerzitních učitelů ohrožuje plánovaní vyhazování výuku i výzkum po celé univerzitě. Škrty ohrozí kvalitu vyučování, ochromí výzkum a omezí počet oborů, která škola bude nadále vyučovat. Informace v angličtině jsou níže:

WHAT IS THE DISPUTE ABOUT?

Dundee University is seeking 193 job losses as part of its Strategic Review. The job cuts across the whole university threatens the nature of teaching and research at the University of Dundee. Despite repeated efforts to seek means to mitigate threatened job cuts, the University has refused to rule out compulsory redundancies. The University's decision to cut 193 jobs will undermine the quality of teaching, undermine research and remove student's access to programmes.

WHAT IMPACT WILL THE CUTS HAVE?

The threatened job losses will mean a significant undermining of the quality of education, damaging Dundee's reputation and stated aim to be the University of choice. The impact on staff and students will be substantial:

  • unemployment for colleagues at a time when the job market is stagnating
  • a higher teaching and administrative workload for those who remain in post
  • bigger classes and less contact time for students
  • reducing academic capacity at Dundee will undermine our reputation as a world class university
  • allocation of heavier teaching workloads to leaders in research risks Dundee's reputation and future access to funding.
