Don't Touch our Budweiser!
27. 7. 2010
Jana Bobošíková's political party Suverenita protests against the intention of the Nečas` government of privatizing Budvar [the original Czech Budweiser]. Suverenita wants to fight against that plan from the new government coalition in the Senate. [Bobošíková will be a candidate for the Senate in the upcoming mid-term elections].
"The so-called new style of administration of this current government evidently counts with hiding their real intentions, so we only find out something when some minister accidentally lets something out", declared former presidential candidate Jana Bobošíková.
The Suverenita leader points to the fact that the coalition agreement signed by the new government partners doesn't say anything about the privatization of Budvar, but the Agriculture Minister Ivan Fuksa (ODS) said to the media that he us already solving some legal steps that are connected with making possible the privatization of the traditional beer brand that has been used by the American-based (now Brazilian/Belgian owned) Anheuser-Busch brewery.
Similarly, Justice Minister Jiří Pospíšil is considering selling the Pankrác jail, despite of the fact that the building in question is not only a prison, but a place where hundreds of Czech patriots were unjustly persecuted during the previous regime.
An angry Jana Bobošíková said "this is absolutely outrageous! Instead of doing something to improve our economic performance and the prestige of our country, this government is thinking about selling a brand and even a place deeply connected with our history, statehood, national pride and traditions".
