Poll: Some Czech army officers would not mind the introduction of death by stoning
29. 9. 2015
Some 50 per cent of the members of the Czech army and the army general staff would support such a political party which would offer a "radical solution of the Roma question". 5 per cent of Czech army officers take part in extremist demonstrations. This is the result of an internal opinion poll carried out amongst the employees of the Czech army by the Defence Ministry. "13 per cent of the members of the general staff of the Czech army hold aggressive views which are incompatible with the values of Western democratic societies. They do not mind accepting behaviour which is alien to the European continent. Every eighth citizen of the general staff of the Czech army constitutes a security risk," says the secret analysis parts of which have been leaked by a Czech TV station.
The general staff of the Czech army does not unambiguously support the security strategy of the Czech Republic. Every fourth member of the Czech general staff disagrees with the official foreign policy of the Czech Republic. For instance, the United States of America are seen as the third most dangerous enemy of the Czech Republic by some members of the general staff of the Czech army.
While 75 per cent of the employees of the Czech army regard the Islamic State as dangerous, every eighth employee of the Czech general staff would welcome the introduction of capital punishment by stoning. These individuals would not mind punishments such as flogging, amputation of hands and honour killings.
The Czech Defence Secretary Martin Stropnický expressed displeasure over the fact that information from this internal report has been leaked. He does not find some of the findings convincing. Andrej Babiš, the Czech Deputy Prime Minister said on television that these problems will have to be tackled, but he does not know how.
