On Monday 15th October at 5 pm, room 205, Hetherington Building, University of Glasgow, Jan Čulík of the Slavonic Studies Department will present, within the Slavonic Studies Research Seminars Programme, a talk entitled: Good PR: How Britain succesfully presented itself as a racist imperial power to the Czech Republic. Jan Čulík´s talk will provide information on the institution by the British authorities of a racist anti-Romany filter at Prague Airport in the summer of 2001 and analyse the legal reprecussions of this measure for both Czech and British citizens. The talk will also include, amongst other things, documentary television material about how the Czech Republic reacted to this British immigration measure which made headline news in Prague for many weeks in July and August 2001. |
