8. 4. 2016
The Czech Republic will not take back the 25 Iraqi Christians from Germany as yet, said the Czech Interior Minister Milan Chovanec, pointing out that in his view the "German application has fundamental formal flaws and is not in line with European law". Chovanec also added that the Czech government has now closed down the Generation 21 project for resettling 153 Iraqi Christians in the Czech Republic, saying that "it is not possible to support a project which does not fulfill its purpose".
25 Iraqi Christians of some 89 who had to date been accepted by the Czech Republic within the Generation 21 project decided to leave for Germany about a week ago. The German authorities first said that they would deport them back to the Czech Republic, which was planning to deport them to Iraq, then they changed their minds and said that they would allow them to apply for asylum in Germany, then then said that they would deport them to the Czech Republic.
