No, it is not understandable, it is against the law!

9. 3. 2010 / Jan Čulík

The Editor-in-Chief argues against some words written by author Kateřina Švidrnochová in her article "Young Gypsies about to enter university, but cannot enter disco". He opposes her assertion that "it is understandable that the owner of some business has the right to choose who he or she wants as clients, the same way as we choose the people whom we invite home for a visit", calling her position "unbelievable". Čulík says that this is once again evidence of either an amazing lack of consciousness from Czechs who dedicate themselves to Roma-Gypsy issues, or downright racism.

"I have a little, maybe surprising piece of information for Mrs Švindrnochová: No, the owner of some public place, some entertainment business CANNOT choose to not let in people with a different skin color!", the author highlights.

He points out that "of course that it is against the law to not allow into a place open to the public someone with a different race. The discriminated Roma persons should file a complaint with the authorities, especially if able to get the video records from that place and show that white persons dressed similarly were let in.

Štěpán Kotrba adds to Čulík's protest, informing that entertainment/food businesses are not private places and that it has the legal obligation to offer the services that it has concession from the authorities to explore, as allowed by their business permits, and it CANNOT select its clientelle.
