The second Jean Monnet Scholarship
Applications are invited from suitably qualified graduates in any
discipline for the second Jean Monnet PhD scholarship tenable at the
Centre for European Studies in the University of Limerick from September
2000. Although research proposals on any topic relating to European
Integration are welcome, themes relating to the enlargement of the EU, or
the external relations of the EU, are particularly welcome. Applicants
should note that the PhD scholarship is worth ŁIR4500 plus fees and is
free of income tax. It is renewable for a maximum of three years subject
to satisfactory progress being made. Recipients cannot undertake other
paid employment without the consent of the supervisor and the Centre
Director. Research must be carried out on a full-time basis; and the
successful applicant will be expected to complete the dissertation within
the three year period, and to submit at least one paper for publication
during that time. During the tenure of the scholarship, the Jean Monnet
Scholar will be expected to contribute to a maximum of six hours per week
to actvities related to the Centre for European Studies. These activities
may include teaching, research assistance, or administration, and will be
intended to reflect and reinforce the competencies of the successful
applicant.
